How Often Should You Have Your House Cleaned?

The honest answer is: it depends on who lives in the house

I get this question almost every week. Someone texts from Plano or calls from Frisco and asks whether they need a cleaner every week or if once a month is enough. There is no single right answer, but there is a pretty reliable way to figure out yours. Walk through the four household types below and see which one sounds like your home.

Two working adults, no kids

This is the tidiest household on paper. Both people leave early, come home tired, and the house mostly sits empty all day. Dust still builds up, especially from North Texas cedar and oak pollen blowing through in March and April and the AC running hard from May through October. Those return vents collect a surprising amount of debris when the system runs twelve hours a day.

For most couples like this in Addison, Uptown Dallas or Allen, a biweekly standard cleaning keeps things comfortable without feeling like overkill. The bathrooms and kitchen stay on top of hard water buildup (it is real here, frameless shower glass shows it fast), and dust does not get a chance to settle deep into surfaces. If travel or busy seasons pile up, a monthly schedule works, but you will notice the difference between visits.

A family with school-age kids and a dog

This household is a different story entirely. Backpacks hit the floor, cleats track in red Collin County clay, and the dog sheds year-round. Kitchens in homes like this in McKinney, Forney or Rowlett see real daily use. Fingerprints appear on cabinet fronts faster than you can wipe them.

Families in this situation get the most value from weekly cleaning. It sounds like a lot until you realize what it actually does: it keeps bacteria from settling into high-touch surfaces, keeps pet dander manageable, and stops the grime in the grout from becoming a weekend project. Biweekly is a workable compromise, but between visits the kitchen and bathrooms will need attention from you. If you go biweekly, it is worth adding a deep clean once or twice a year to reset the baseboards, ceiling fans and cabinet fronts that accumulate grime over time.

If you have never had professional cleaning before, I always recommend starting with a deep clean regardless of the household. That first visit often uncovers builder dust (especially in newer Frisco or Rowlett construction) or built-up grease that a standard clean is not designed to tackle from scratch.

A retired couple

Retired households in Richardson, Carrollton or Grand Prairie often have older ranch-style homes from the 1970s and 1980s with textured walls and original tile. These surfaces hold dust differently than smooth drywall does. The house may be cleaner day to day because someone is usually home, but that also means more foot traffic and more time cooking.

A monthly standard cleaning is usually enough here, focusing on deep-cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms and dusting the harder-to-reach spots. Some couples in this situation prefer biweekly simply because they want the peace of mind. Either works. Adding inside-the-oven or inside-the-fridge as occasional add-ons makes sense when you are cooking at home most days.

A single professional in an Uptown or Las Colinas high-rise

Small square footage, one person, mostly eating out or ordering in. Honestly, the bathroom and kitchen are the only rooms that really get used hard. Everything else is just dust.

A monthly standard cleaning is usually the right call, and some people bump it to biweekly during ragweed season in the fall or after a long work stretch when they have not had time to keep up. For corporate relocations landing in Legacy West or Las Colinas, I often suggest a one-time deep clean to start fresh in the new place before settling into a recurring schedule.

Why biweekly is the most common answer in Collin County

When I look at recurring clients across Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen, biweekly is by far the most common choice. It lands in the right spot for most households: frequent enough to stay on top of hard water, dust and kitchen grease, but not so frequent that it feels unnecessary. Families that try monthly usually end up stepping up to biweekly within a few months because the gap between cleans becomes obvious.

Recurring visits also cost less per clean than one-time visits. The home is already in decent shape, so each visit takes less time and effort. That frequency discount applies whether you choose weekly, biweekly or monthly.

A few questions that help dial in the right schedule

  • How many people and pets live in the home?
  • How often is the kitchen cooked in versus ordered from?
  • Do you have carpet, hardwood or both?
  • Are there allergy sufferers in the house?
  • How long has it been since the last thorough clean?

The answers to those questions usually make the right frequency obvious. Square footage, bedroom and bathroom count, and the current condition of the home are also what drive the actual quote. We do not give ballpark figures because two four-bedroom homes in Frisco can be in completely different shape.
